I know 11 couples that are getting married this year. Is there something in the water? Its all a bit scary. It seems like I just turned my head for a moment, and when turning back suddenly everyone is paired off and getting married. I'm starting to feel like the only one left in the pool in a game of marco polo. Its a bit strange, cause I'm really REALLY happy for each and everyone one of them, but also a bit depressed for totally selfish reasons. On the upside, I potentially have the opportunity to purchase 11 different outfits this year lol.
Skyhooks have summed it up pretty nicely (except for the bit about having a son, I think i am possibly the most un-maternal gal in the world!)
Well all my friends are getting married
Yes they're all growin' old
They're staying home on weekends
They're all doin' what they're told
But I'm caught up in this magic
I'm all caught up in the fun
I'm all caught up in this music
Maybe I'll never have a son
Well I looked into the crowd the other night
And I saw an old familiar face
He said "How are you doin' Shirl my boy?"
He said " Tell me, are you still playin' the same old place
I asked him all about himself
And he said that he was married with a kid
Showed me a picture of his wife
And we talked about all the things we did
Well sometimes I feel like I'm left behind
And sometimes I feel like I just left school
Wonder if I'll ever grow up
Maybe I'm the only fool
But I'm all caught up in this magic
Yes I'm caught up in this fun
I'm all caught up with this music
Well maybe I'll never have a son

This is the kind of post that I feel like I'm not allowed to comment on as a married person... oh well!
ReplyDeleteCan I say that I used to know how you feel? I never had 11 weddings in one year, though. I think it's just our age. I'm starting to reach the stage where everyone I know is having babies, and if I don't get a move on, I'm going to be left behind. Problem is, we're not even sure we want to have children, but that perspective seems to be stigmatised by a lot of Christians...
It's a weird situation, being happy and sad at the same time - so happy that your friend has found someone to spend the rest of their life with, but sad that you haven't - or sad that your friend's fiance is taking them all the way across the country to Perth!
It's cool that you're excited about the potential opportunity to purchase 11 new outfits. That would just freak me out. I hate shopping, and I'm really not looking forward to bridesmaid dress shopping for Donna's wedding (although, of course, I'm excited and honoured to be asked) - three rather slim girls... and me. Grr. It was bad enough with Liz's wedding, and I was about 20kg lighter then! Actually, you know what? Shopping for my own dress was bad enough!
OK, enough ranting now. Sorry about that! Must be the lack of real food today - I've started a diet!
Thanks for your input Lara. I understand the children thing, and understand the Christian social stigma around that too. I guess in the race of life people will always think that they are ahead or behind in some respect or another.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I am so sad that my friends fiancee is taking her away, so very sad. So I'm super SUPER happy about the engagement, as they are clearly both happy, but so so sad that they are moving so far away. :-)/:-(
I love shopping so much! If you ever see my wardrobe...or wardrobes...and drawers, and bags of clothes under my bed, and at my parents house, and everywhere really, you will understand my love of shopping haha.
I know what you mean about being the larger of the girls too, I've pretty much always been the largest one in groups of slim girls, it used to bother me heaps, not so much anymore. But I do know how you feel. But I am sure with your diet, and the many months before the wedding, you wont feel out of place at all. Plus, you are all beautiful girls regardless of size, and a few extra kilos doesn't cloud the inner lovleyness that I know you have. :-)
Thanks for your encouragement.
Michelle, you are a lovely, beautiful person, and one of the things I really love about you is that you seem to be so happy with the person that you are. A great inspiration!
ReplyDeleteAnd you're right. As Mika sang, "Big girls, you are beautiful!"
:-)
Or in the words of Queen: "Fat bottomed girls, they make the rockin' world go round". :-)
